What Are The Best Movies For Each U.S. State?

My first reaction to this question was: what a totally random question. You might as well as ask for best films for a leading actress by eye colour. Then I thought about a map I remember seeing previously that compared America
Then it didn't seem such a daft question. If you would've asked for best films in Europe based on country, I wouldn't have flinched.
So a precondition to this list is that I have actually watched the movies in question. So, there are no iconic movies I haven't seen yet like "Thelma and Louise" and if I had, maybe this list would be different. For example if I could remember seeing "The Night of the Hunter" starring Robert Mitchum when I was much younger, I might have been able to include it for the state of West Virginia
My criterion for choice
  • The film used the location so well that it couldn't have been filmed anywhere else. Sadly this was rarer than I thought. I was sad to see how few films had caught the flavour of their setting.
  • That it was well made. I chose films that I thought were good in preference to films that I enjoyed. So "Boys Don't Cry" and "True Grit" are included even though they're not my personal favourites
  • That I enjoyed it. You may not agree. But that's fine. It's my list.
